Two Steps at a Time
Two Steps at a Time, a film by Will Maloney, documents the work of PeacePlayers International – Northern Ireland (PPI – NI) as the organization uses basketball to bridge divides among Catholic and Protestant young people in a society in many ways still segregated along religious lines. The film follows Darryl, William, Aoife and Ronny as they engage in PPI – NI and use basketball, a non-traditional sport in the region, to examine their own perceptions.
The film is organized in four parts. Part I follows Aoife and Ronny, two participants in PPI – NI's Primary School Twinning program, through an eight-week intervention with PPI – NI.
Part II profiles William Winchester, a Cross-Community League coach, while he learns more about his own leadership ability and how sport can be used as a tool to teach.
Part III focuses on Darryl Petticrew, a Belfast native involved with PPI – NI since its earliest days, who now heads the organization's Leadership Development Program.
The three strands come together in Part IV of the video, "Jingle Ball," an annual celebration bringing together over 180 children from throughout Belfast.
